I was blessed as a beginner to meet and
learn from Mr. Lowell Barber, who had kept chickens for well over 70
years, and who imported many rare breeds to the US in that time,
including Welsummers, Light Sussex, Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Tomaru Long-crowers,
Russian Orloffs, and several lines of Marans. (If you know of
another breed he imported, please contact
me so I can add to the list!)
We shared a taste for the rare and special, an
interest in conserving rare colors and patterns, and a passion for colored
eggs. This page and my birds are dedicated to him.
